Hospital beds can be incredibly expensive. Those made by Stryker and Hill-Rom can range from $5000-$10,000 depending on the features. When a loved one passes away, families are left with the beds. They are a reminder of a difficult time and it seems incredibly wasteful to simply throw them out.
D4D has received lots of offers of hospital beds. After some discussion we have decided the issues around transportation and sanitation are too difficult and we will not accept them. However, we will try to match those with hospital beds to those who need them. When you have a bed to donate, give us contact information and let us know if it is OK to publish this online. We’ll put it on a web page so people who need beds can contact you directly.
Last week, we were able to match a woman in Joliet whose mother has Parkinson’s disease with a gentleman in Chicago whose son recently passed. The lady sent us this photo of the bed being loaded on to her truck. “I would like to thank you very much for your help,” she said. “The bed was pretty heavy. It definitely was a challenge to put in my mom’s bedroom but it was worth it.”
D4D knows of the following hospital beds:
1. North Lake Shore Drive, Chicago
2. Main Street, Lombard, IL
3. West Maypole Street, Chicago
4. South LeClaire, Burbank, IL
