A few weeks ago, we were fortunate enough to help Joe Zuniga, who suffers from a condition called osteogenesis imperfecta. Joe depends on a motorized wheelchair to get around. It’s hard for him to walk because his bones are brittle and break easily. Joe loves to get all the way downtown from his apartment near the Lincoln Park Zoo. But he was trapped in his apartment for a long time after his previous chair broke down. He explained that paperwork and administrative obstacles kept him from getting a replacement–until he ran into Brad Edwards. Brad let us know about Joe, and we were able to get him a motorized chair.
Joe posted a photo of him at the feet of a huge statue of Abraham Lincoln. Here’s a link to the photo on Joe’s Twitter feed. To the left is a motorized chair we believe to be the one we gave him. We’re so happy Joe is able to get out and about to the summer festivals he loves. It’s just another example of how D4D is able to help those in need who, for one reason or another, can’t get the mobility equipment they require to get around and maintain a good quality of life.
